LA is an interesting place.  Winter is 80 degrees and sunny, there's a raccoon eating out of our bins and sex has always been and always will be currency here.

I've been in meetings most of the week and everyone has a view on the Aziz story on babe.net.  To say that opinion is divided is a massive understatement.  New York Times says just bad sex, Atlantic goes harder, Guardian and Huff Post have a different take again and Samantha Bee says that if Aziz is a feminist, he should fuck like one.

In true Carrie Bradshaw style... "It got me thinking..."

While it's clear that...

In the age of spin, there's always a battle for the winning soundbite. As I sit in the US and watch the clown car derby that is Donald Trump in office, you can watch as each simple idea, simple solution and 'read my lips' promise splatters against the wall of reality.  Government is hard...  big revelation for those who serve, unless we're willing to assume a certain level of complication as standard - to give the benefit of the doubt to people doing a difficult thing.  This most people would do, if only they didn't keep telling us how simple the answers are....

Forgive me, those of you who have followed the daily blog.  That spaceship held together Millennium Falcon-like across the first 20 or so, better than I would have ever imagined, and certainly longer than my plan to do thirty push ups each morning.  But the crazy energy and music of the last insane, life-changing six months finally stopped last week.  I left Amsterdam, and my funny offbeat life there with its dear friends who helped me through so much.  I left with the confidence of someone who has moved often.  New places, new countries, new languages... none of it intim...

The more eagle-eyed among you will notice that operation 100 blogs has taken a battering this week.  I'm in Amsterdam on a mini lecturing tour, as well as taking the chance to properly say goodbye to a city and its many amazing, warm and kind people I really connected with over the last 18 months.

I've been bringing myself back to life - back in the classroom delivering my first Master's lecture at the University of Amsterdam, running weekend screenwriting intensives for the Mulholland Film Academy.  I've also been back on the squash court and even on the tennis court...

The journey is underway!  The next week will see me embark on a three venue teaching tour with a double weekend masterclass at Mulholland academy and my first guest lecture at the University of Amsterdam.  From there it will be Wow Air to Iceland before landing in San Francisco as my base for work meetings for the next few weeks.

The first leg of the journey has also allowed me to reflect on my home away from home for the last 18 months. Amsterdam is a beautiful city with a very distinct culture.  As some of my friends are quick to point out, that culture is no...

Dear PR Hackers,

So, it turns out I'm now a 'Content Hacker'.  That's a bit of a thing to find out at 33, on an idle Tuesday and after having been called pretty much everything else in the writing space (Including some pretty graphic stuff as befits my savage Celtic heritage)

Aside from that new identity crisis, (Thanks for that) I'm interested to know if there's a Content Hacking dress code?  Would I have to wear roller blades, leather and sneakers like a 90's style hacker and get 'Access Denied' tattooed somewhere unpleasant in big red Helvetica letters?  I hope not...

Who What Where Why When

Why I am blessed to walk in worlds where walls and souls are wrought with words
To work and walk a wandering way so when I close the page they'll stay
The same, await that moment when I wander by that way again
What welcome will they give me? Warm?  I hope, but stay well braced for scorn
As when I'm gone their world stops dead - They wile away the hours in dread
I won't return to work their world, their moon unwaxed, their pages curled
By wonton wild distraction's flight - the things I'd rather do than write
Or worse that my attentions may drift...

At 8:30am this morning I signed on for a stressful Sunday.  Today was the Australian Open men's final.  Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal - In my opinion, the greatest match up in tennis.

It was a thing of beauty, and though it lacked the raw, emotional, swash bucking quality of some of the other great matches they've contested, most notably THAT 2008 Wimbledon final - widely regarded as the greatest tennis match of all time.

Theirs was and is a rivalry that any writer would dream of creating.  Federer, the silky skilled finesse that was at his peak, almost unplayable, his...

"So what is it you do?"

I dread this question...  Which is convenient when trying to relocate to a country where practically nobody knows you and you KNOW it's going to be the first bloody question they ask.

I don't dread the question because of any embarrassment at my occupation.  I long since got over and encouraged others to get over the curse of the embarrassed creative.  Long since I stopped being an aspirational anything. (except belly dancer - more on that later)

I am more than willing to tell you when questioned that I'm a writer, even though that immediate...

We all know what they say about pens and swords.  As a writer, should probably declare an interest and go out to bat for the value and power of my profession...

But when knee deep in the blood of my enemies, I know which I'd rather have.

I've been talking to people who are beginning to think that we are moving into a dystopian era.  It is not hard to imagine Trump as the arch Nemesis of some kind of tech savvy batman figure.  Unfortunately, the heroes seem less likely than the villains to defy the laws of common sense that prohibit their existence.

Fortunately, ma...
